Ray Panthaki is an actor, writer, producer and trailblazing director who has a host of brilliant accolades under his belt, including a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit honour and a 2021 BIFA nomination for his role in Philip Barantini’s Boiling Point (2021) – Britain’s first ever single shot film. In addition, Ray has directed and produced a number of acclaimed and thought-provoking films such as Kidulthood, Ernie and Boiling Point. 

Recognised as one of the industry’s most diverse hybrids, Ray has made waves across all disciplines – making his directorial debut with the hard-hitting short Life Sentence about the UK’s knife crime epidemic. Life Sentence was praised for its directorial flair and unique cinematography and went on to win Best Short at EEFF and long listed for a BAFTA. 

Shortly after, Ray set up his own film company Urban Way from his back bedroom with the sole mission to make experimental, independent films that would always choose creativity over commerce. He went on to make the BAFTA winning Convenience which made its mark as the first British film with two Asian leads. Devoted to issues on race representation and diversity in film, Ray most recently produced Boiling Point which received 11 BIFA Awards and nominated for four BAFTAs for its innovative and compelling cinematography. 

Intelligently balancing both art-house films with more commercial parts, Ray is best known for his roles in Marcella, as Hassan B the nemesis of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G and in Brit-flick ‘Tube Tales’ alongside Jude Law and Bob Hoskins. He has also appeared in the period feature Collette and real-life thriller Official Secrets, both starring Keira Knightly in addition to HBO’s Gangs of London, SAS Red Notice and Netflix’s astronaut drama Away with Hilary Swank.

More recently, Ray has starred in drama series, ‘The Serpent Queen’, as Charles Guise and Freeman in the thriller, ‘Boiling Point’.
