India Rose James

India Rose James is a London-based artist, curator, collector, and founder of Soho Revue Gallery.

Having studied Fine Art at City & Guilds, India turned her attention to curation, launching the Soho Revue gallery in 2019. Soho Revue serves to provide a phenomenal space for emerging artists in the heart of Soho, and operates on a greatly reduced commission structure to better benefit and support her artists from industry norms.

Over the years India has championed a number of emerging artists who have gone on to achieve enormous success and critical acclaim within the contemporary art world. A 2015 exhibition directed by India saw work from Gabriella Boyd, Alison Bignon and Walter Hugo & Zoniel, whose worked has since been acquired by and exhibited in world renowned institutions such as the Royal Academy in London, the Pavillion Vendôme in Clichy and the Tate Britain in London respectively.

Driven by a desire to address the absence of female artists within the contemporary art world and showcase their often disregarded talent, India has also curated an array of women-only exhibitions. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Soho Revue’s July 2021 reopening was marked by the ‘Femme Ate’ exhibition which drew on and reclaimed Soho’s history of showcasing women. A further female-lead exhibition. ‘Thesmophoria’, took place in October 2021, in support of the Women for Women’s Afghanistan relief fund to help women survivors of war, and a third, ‘An Arcadian Kind of Love’, exhibited in February 2022, in support of Choose Love.

Granddaughter to the late publisher and property developer, Paul Raymond, India (alongside The Box founder Simon Hammerstein) also undertook the resurrection of Soho’s iconic drag club, Madame Jojo’s, which opened in 2022 and showcases India’s unique style and talent for spotting and supporting emerging artists and giving them a platform to showcase their best creative work.
